Echo Films believes that making films based on historical accuracy and attention to historical detail give the viewer a more immediate and rich experience of times past. Artifacts of the past might seem like dusty old objects with nothing left to say. But when we wrap them in context and place them in dazzling cinematic phrases the power of their story is released. They live again. They breath again. They connect us to the past in a real way.
When we were producing JEREMIAH we needed to put the viewer into the Hanoi Hilton prison in North Vietnam circa 1966. Our budget precluded us form traveling to Hanoi and most of the prison has since been destroyed anyhow. Although we could have found another prison to represent the Hanoi Hilton, named Hoa Lo Prison by the North Vietnamese, we wanted authenticity. We looked to the theater arts and hired a set designer to create a miniature version on part of the prison based on photographs of the actual site. The 18 inch tall by 36 inch long scale model is historically accurate and allowed us to film many different shots and angles to put out viewer into the prison. |
